Have had some calls about different ways bumpers may be mounted over the last couple weeks.
Here is how the rules read:
1. Any OEM shock canister may be bolted or welded to any car. AMOUNTS OF BOLTS OR WELDS MAY NOT EXCEED TYPICAL STOCK INSTALLATION. Homemade bumper brackets are permitted, NO GUSSETS OR BRACING. Not to extend behind OEM mounting bolt location on frame. May use 2½” max. Round or Square tubing. No thicker than ¼ inch. No solid stock may be used. Any OEM stock automobile bumper may be bolted or welded to the shock canister or bumper brackets. You may use two (2) pieces of light chain per shock. Fenders and bumper ends may be trimmed to allow for wheel clearance. Must have inspection holes to see inside bumper.
2. Must start with stock OEM bumper. Front bumper may have flat plate welded to the back up to ½” thick, no taller than the back of the bumper, no wider than the bumper shocks. Front bumper may have flat plate welded on the top up to ¼” thick, no larger than the top of the bumper front to back, no wider than the bumper shocks. You may weld outer chrome of bumper to inner skin of bumper. No loaded bumpers allowed, nothing inside of bumpers.
3. May have ¼” X 2” wide strap from bumper to frame or body, two on front and two on rear. Only a 2”X2” area on each end of strap may be welded to bumper and frame or body.
So what this meens is you can replace a shock with 2½” max. Round or Square tubing. No thicker than ¼ inch. You may weld that to the frame and weld it to the bumper. You may also have a ¼” X 2” wide strap from bumper to frame or body, two on front and two on rear. Welded as stated above in no. 3.
You can not have any GUSSETS OR BRACING. No bumper mounting materials thicker than ¼”.
You can not have extra metal on or around the frame.
You can not have core support spacers welded to the frame.
If you have your bumper mounted differently than stated above, please have the changes made before you reach the inspection line. Corrections will have to be made in order to pass inspection.
If you have any questions please call 618-841-1388
